The Vaporesso XROS 4 is one of the most popular refillable vapes on the market today. While it retains the legendary simplicity of the previous devices in the XROS series, it has a new feature – adjustable power – that makes it more appealing to enthusiast-level vapers who want a bit more vapor production but don’t want to use a large vape mod that feels like a brick in their pocket.
The XROS 4 also features the super-reliable operation that has helped to make the Vaporesso brand so famous in the vaping community, which is why you might feel pretty surprised if your Vaporesso XROS 4 isn’t charging.
The Vaporesso XROS 4 has a built-in battery with a capacity of 1,000 mAh. It also supports 2-amp fast charging, which means that the battery can charge fully from dead in just 30 minutes or so – if the charging function is working, of course.
When you connect the charging cable to the XROS 4, the light above the fire button should illuminate in a color signifying the battery’s current charge level. The light will be red if the battery is nearly empty and green if the battery is almost full. If the light doesn’t turn on, you’ve got a problem.
Here’s what you should do if the Vaporesso XROS 4 isn’t charging.
Make Sure the XROS 4 Isn’t Charged Already
Are you trying to charge your Vaporesso XROS 4 because it isn’t working? If the XROS 4 doesn’t light up when you connect the charging cable, the problem might not be that the device isn’t charging. The light also won’t turn on if the XROS 4 is fully charged already. Maybe the real problem is that it’s just turned off. Try pressing the fire button five times. If the light flashes in response, your XROS 4 is now on, and you can vape normally.
Check the Power Source
If your XROS 4 doesn’t turn on when you press the fire button five times, you’ve confirmed that the battery definitely is dead. In this case, the first thing that you should do is check the power source that you’re using to charge the device. Are you sure that you’re using a USB port or charger that’s capable of delivering a 2-amp charging current? Maybe your XROS 4 actually is charging, but it’s taking much longer than the 30 minutes that it would normally take to charge.
If you connect the XROS 4 to a power source that isn’t capable of delivering a 2-amp current, the device will still charge – it’ll just take much longer. With a 1-amp power source, for example, charging the XROS 4 will take about an hour. If you’re using a wall adapter, you’ll probably find the charging amperage on a sticker attached to the adapter.
If your XROS 4 isn’t lighting up at all when you connect the charging cable, try a different power source. If you’re using a wall charger, connect the device to your computer. If you’re already using a computer, connect the XROS 4 to a different computer or a different USB port on the same computer.
Use a Different USB Cable to Charge the XROS 4
If your XROS 4 still isn’t charging even though you’ve tried more than one power source, the next most likely culprit is the cable that you’re using to charge the device. It’s very common for USB cables to experience internal fraying when they’ve been used for a long time – especially if you tend to grip a cable by the wire rather than the connector when removing it. A frayed cable won’t transfer power reliably and could even potentially cause a damaging short circuit.
Try charging your XROS 4 with a different cable. If the device lights up, you can conclude that the cable you were trying to use is faulty. You should consider throwing the cable away to ensure that you won’t continue trying to charge devices with it in the future.
Check the XROS 4’s Charging Port for Dust and Lint
Is your XROS 4 still not lighting up when you connect the charging cable even though you’ve tried multiple cables and power sources? Check the device’s charging port with a flashlight to see if something is stuck inside it. If you carry the XROS 4 in your pocket when you aren’t using it, it’s possible that a piece of pocket lint is lodged inside the charging port. You can remove it with a toothpick. If the port is especially dusty, you can blow the dust out with a can of compressed air. Anything that prevents the contacts on the charging cable from touching the contacts in the port will stop your XROS 4 from charging.
Note that you should never clean any USB port with a metal tool because it could damage the fragile contacts inside the port. If you don’t have a toothpick available, use another thin nonmetal item.
If Nothing Works, Replace the XROS 4
If you’ve tried all of the suggestions in this article and find that your XROS 4 still isn’t charging, you’ll need to consider the possibility that it’s actually time to replace your device. A typical lithium-ion battery lasts about 300-500 cycles before it begins to lose the ability to hold a normal charge. In other words, you can expect the XROS 4 to last about a year or a little longer if you drain the battery fully every day.
Are you experiencing charging issues with the XROS 4 after owning it for more than a year? In addition to the device not charging at all, the symptoms of a dead battery include:
- Greatly reduced battery capacity. In this case, you’ll find that the XROS 4 dies almost immediately after you remove it from the charger. When you reconnect the charging cable, the battery charges fully in just a few minutes.
- Inability to reach the battery’s target voltage. In this case, you can connect the XROS 4 to the charger, and it’ll never finish charging regardless of how long you wait.
If your XROS 4 doesn’t seem to be charging and has either of the above symptoms, it’s time to buy a new vape.
