For sports lovers seeking entertainment, the English Premier League stands out. As the biggest domestic competition on the planet, soccer fans tend to have a top-flight team they support. Alongside watching Major League Soccer and perhaps attending Phoenix Rising FC games on occasion, connoisseurs of the beautiful game tune in for the biggest fixtures on the Premier League calendar. But who are the best teams to watch this season?
Well, as always, the Premier League is a highly competitive soccer league. Liverpool’s title triumph last season generally wasn’t predicted by fans and experts alike, while teams like Nottingham Forest coming so close to European qualification was another shock. Despite the competition’s all-around unpredictability, though, there are generally clubs that serve up more entertaining soccer than others.
A competition containing some of the best players and managers on the planet, you’re almost guaranteed to watch an end-to-end, open encounter when you settle down on the sofa for a Premier League game. If you’re wanting to watch the best of the best this season, though, then below we highlight some of the clubs who are more likely to put on entertaining displays than the rest.
Liverpool
First up is the current holders of the Premier League trophy, Liverpool. Arne Slot’s side has an abundance of world-class operators within their ranks, including Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk. Liverpool’s Egyptian star is undoubtedly their main man and will be keen to beat his 29 league goals from last season. Salah could see even more chances come his way, with new signing Florian Wirtz also expected to turn it on in the Premier League. A side that plays high-intensity soccer and contains some of the best attacking talents in the whole of football, Liverpool will surely be there or thereabouts this season. In fact, for many people, it’s hard to look past the Reds retaining their Premier League crown come the end of the season.
Chelsea
With American owners overseeing things at Stamford Bridge, Chelsea are a team many people in this part of the world get behind. Enzo Maresca’s troops won the Europa Conference League last season and will be keen to challenge at the top end of the Premier League table this time around. From Cole Palmer and Neto, to Noni Madueke and recent acquisitions like Liam Delap, the Blues have goal threats all over the pitch and could easily find themselves in the title picture throughout the campaign. Inconsistency did hinder their efforts at times last season, though, but Chelsea are a club with some of the brightest young talents in soccer who will surely only grow as the season progresses. For soccer fanatics wanting to witness the finest players in action, many of them play for Chelsea, including the aforementioned Cole Palmer, Reece James, Neto, and Moises Caicedo.
Manchester City
After an uncharacteristic trophy-less campaign last season, Manchester City will be desperate to return to form this time around. The big-spenders have already recruited wisely, with the likes of AC Milan’s Tijjani Reijnders through the door and Lyon’s best player Rayan Cherki snapped up. Cherki will have the responsibility of replacing Kevin De Bruyne’s attacking output, but the tricky Frenchman has all the attributes needed to light up the Premier League. A team many fans will predict to win the title with friends in the pub and through some sports betting, the return of Rodri is also another huge reason why Pep Guardiola’s side could be a dangerous proposition once again this season. One thing’s for sure, given the attacking quality City have within their ranks, such as Erling Haaland, they’re a side that will score a lot of goals.
Arsenal
If you’re a soccer fan who appreciates the defensive side of the game alongside the sport’s feast of goals, then you’ll admire what Arsenal are about. The Gunners managed to become the most resolute defensive unit once again last season, and while they’re in desperate need of some attacking reinforcements, particularly up top, Mikel Arteta’s side can still score bundles of goals at times. Bukayo Saka is undoubtedly their main hope, with his injury last season really damaging the Gunners’ prospects. Likewise, in terms of their reliable defense, William Saliba and Gabriel have established themselves as one of the best defensive pairings in soccer, let alone the Premier League. Throw in the likes of creative forces like captain Martin Ødegaard and industrious midfielders like Declan Rice, and Arsenal are one of the most complete sides in the league. The club’s new sporting director, Andrea Berta, really needs to snap up a goal machine up front if the Gunners are to mount a more sustained title charge this season, though.
Newcastle United
Newcastle United are a club on the up. With wealthy owners in place and a superb manager in Eddie Howe at the helm, they’re in good hands. The Carabao Cup holders will need to strengthen their squad in the coming weeks, though, but they’re capable of making a real go of it this season. With a cauldron of noise always on offer at home games and their passionate away support following them up and down the county, the Toon Army rarely fail to turn up. Alexander Isak is their most prized asset, with 23 Premier League goals to his name last season, Bruno Guimaraes is their midfield orchestrator who could easily play for one of the best teams in Europe, and they have exciting wingers like Anthony Gordon who love to take on opposition full-backs. A side who attacks with pace but are also built on a solid defensive foundation, Newcastle are always worth watching.
Other Premier League sides worth checking out this season include Tottenham, Manchester United, Aston Villa, Brighton, Nottingham Forest, and Bournemouth.
